PHILIPSBURG–The anticipated Rio Productions Lighted Parade is set to take place today, Saturday, starting 8:00pm. International acts Bacchanal Queen Destra Garcia and Small Axe band are to headline the parade along with several local acts. The parade acts hosted a press conference at Simpson Bay Beach Resort on Friday afternoon.
Organisers expect close to 2,500 persons this year. T-shirts for the Lighted Parade are still on sale at UTS, Van Dorp Madame Estate, N.C. Wathey Insurances office, Nowhere Special and Caribbean Liquors and Tobacco (CLT). The package includes LED string lights and full open bar, including a large variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages during the entire parade.
“This will be the first time I will be on the road in the evening hours here in St. Maarten. I will perform for all the fans and make sure they have a good time,” said Garcia on Friday during the press conference.
Garcia was born in Trinidad and has built a large international following for her highly energetic performances and most popular carnival songs.
Rio President Brenda Wathey said, “With Destra and Small Axe as the main feature, we have one of the best international soca artistes and bands on board. With DJ Outkast, DJ King Kembe, King James and King Rumer we have our finest local artistes on board.”
The parade will start on the ring road in Philipsburg at 8:00pm and from there will follow the same route as the Carnival Day Parade.
This is Rio Productions’ seventh annual Lighted Parade.
