False broadcast circulating about water interruption | THE DAILY HERALD

PHILIPSBURG–False information about the interruption of water supply today, Friday has been circulating via social media causing panic amongst many residents, who believe that water would be interrupted in the entire country today.

According to the official notice posted by utilities company GEBE, water will be interrupted only on Bush Road and Zagersgut Road today, Friday May 17, from 9:00 am until 3:00 pm. The interruption is to allow GEBE to carry out necessary maintenance to our Water Distribution System.

However, a false notification was being circulated via social media saying that water will be interrupted on the entire Dutch side of the island. Public relations official for GEBE Paula Gordon said the “malicious” broadcast “can have a negative effect on our tanks.” She made clear that water will only be interrupted on Bush Road and Zagertsgut today and the reminder of the country should have a regular supply on water throughout the day.
