Federation registers 22nd murder hours after PM Harris says crime trending down

ST. KITTS–Less than three hours after Prime Minister and Minister of National Security, Dr. Timothy Harris stated at an award ceremony for police officers, that crime was trending down, the Federation recorded murder number 22 for 2017, on Saturday night.

Dead is Theon Audain, struck down by several bullets as he stood on a corner close to Tony Berry’s Shop, a mile away from Government House, where Prime Minister Harris made his remarks.
A police statement Sunday said Audain (27) was standing at the junction of Wigley Avenue and Union Street where a Carnival troupe was being launched, when an assailant or assailants fired numerous shots at him.
“Audain was struck multiple times about the body and died at the scene,” the police statement said. The incident occurred around 11:30pm.
District medical officer Dr. Reginald O’Loughlin was summoned to the scene and pronounced Audain dead and permission was sought from the coroner to remove the body.
The police said its team of forensic investigators processed the scene and took items of evidential value in their possession.
Police said three juveniles are in police custody assisting with the investigation.
Audain’s murder on Saturday night, comes eight days after Nevisian businessman Lincoln Liburd (56) was gunned down in a house in Zetland’s, Gingerland, Nevis, on November 17.
