New SMMTA board
SIMPSON BAY–St. Maarten Marine Trades Association (SMMTA) recently elected maritime industry veteran Robbie Ferron as its new president. He takes up the reins from immediate past president Brian Deher.
Ferron is joined on the board by association founder Lila Rosen, immediate past president Brian Deher, long-serving member Valeska Luckert, Port St. Maarten representative Ichel Moeslikan, day charter representative and youth training director Garth Steyn, sailmaker Ernst Looser, Shervin Frederick and Norina Edelman.
Ferron said in a press statement that St. Maarten has become a very important and popular destination for cruising vessels and superyachts largely due to the services and facilities provided by SMMTA members.
“It is essential that we work diligently to retain our significant market share in the region. The marine industry represents a true opportunity for quick recovery, as has been shown this season, and the upcoming season will be of vital importance for the future of our industry and members,” he said.
SMMTA members are said to agree on the importance of collaborative efforts with partners in the public and private sectors to facilitate recovery and resilience.
The new board will continue the efforts that are underway and continue to take new initiatives, according to Ferron.
