The open day on Sunday at the headquarters of the Fire Brigade in La Savane was well attended by the public. Demonstrations with running commentary were held throughout the day, while fire trucks were on show for the public to see. Explanations were given on the various pieces of fire-fighting equipment and clothing that the firemen (sapeurs-pompiers) use and for what purpose.
Children enjoyed climbing the fire truck ladders, trying on the helmets or holding a water hose. Demonstrations were also given on treating an accident victim and administering first aid and cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR). A stand sold fire-fighting souvenirs and T-shirts. At the close of the day lights on the giant Christmas tree were switched on. (Photo Robert Luckock)
