CAY HILL–The Fire Department has received much-needed and long-awaited emergency fire-fighting equipment.

Received were 80 new helmets and two big boxes of batteries, tubes and maintenance kits for the compressor and the quaestor equipment. Training will be held in July for the firefighters on the use of some of these new materials.

Prime Minister Leona Romeo-Marlin delivered the shipment of First Response Emergency Equipment to the firehouse in Cay Hill on Thursday and officially presented the equipment to Fire Chief Clive Richardson. Also present for the handing-over were National Recovery Programme Bureau (NRPB) Project Manager Piet van Ommeren and several firefighters.

NRPB ordered the equipment, which was paid for via the St. Maarten Recovery, Reconstruction and Resilience Trust Fund financed by the Dutch government and managed by the World Bank. The bureau implements projects on behalf of government.
