ST. EUSTATIUS–Members of the St. Eustatius branch of the Caribbean Netherlands Fire Department BKCN were called out on Sunday night to deal with a downed tree.

The tree had collapsed onto a street due to the heavy rain. The tree fell across Sandy Road opposite the Big Stone Fellowship church, blocking both lanes.

Firefighters cut up the tree, which was removed to ensure the flow of traffic. Members of the Caribbean Netherlands Police Force KPCN were also on the scene.

The Fire Department has been quite busy during the past weekend. It is currently short-staffed with three members assisting their colleagues in Saba, while two others are in Bonaire and in the Netherlands, respectively.

However, all emergency calls were handled with the “utmost professionalism,” it was stated, as the department is “continuously” carrying out various types of emergency training.

The department dealt with a car fire on Saturday, with the downed tree on Sunday, and an emergency helicopter flight was carried out early Monday morning.
