Flammable hazards | THE DAILY HERALD

Members of the St. Eustatius Fire Department were dispatched to the Princess area Wednesday at approximately 2:30am after receiving numerous calls from inhabitants about a large bushfire. Firefighters discovered that a heated-up stack of dry bush on a parcel of land was burning. This fire was more or less in the same area as previous fires, most recently on April 15. The Fire Department promptly extinguished the pile of burning bushes. The chiefs of the Fire and Police Departments had both recently made appeals to persons via the media to refrain from this type of activities. St. Eustatius Fire Chief Andre Bennett stated, “Once again we are soliciting the cooperation of the general public to refrain from lighting bush fires in the dry season and in general.”
