MARIGOT–Under the theme, “We Culture, We Fête,” St. Martin’s 2018 Carnival will officially commence on Saturday, February 10, Festivités Carnavalesque de St. Martin (FCDSM) reminded.
The launch entitled, “Bacchanal Launch,” will begin at 7:00pm with an opening parade from the Marigot ball field, turning down into Rue de La République and concluding at the waterfront.
The procession will to be filled with festive energy, colours and splendour with group performances by Locomotiv, New Generation Status STM Band and Funtopia. FCDSM extends an invitation to all revellers to join in this parade.
The celebration continues with opening remarks on the waterfront, home of 2018 Carnival, by various representatives and stakeholders of this year’s event. In addition to speeches, there will be a “Get Fit 4 Carnival” free Soca session, organised by the Kalaboom team.
This session will include a quick and fun workout to get all revellers in shape for the activities to come during the five days of Carnival.
“As you may have noticed from the calendar of events for Carnival 2018, it will be a short and sweet celebration. FCDSM wanted to ensure we satisfy the pleasure of every reveller with a bit of everything,” FCDSM President Luciana Raspail stated.
Entertainment kicks off with a live performance by one of St. Martin’s iconic bands; Youth Waves, promising a performance not to be missed. St. Lucia’s energetic musical performer Ricky T will also grace the stage, singing a large range of his songs including his 2016 hit single, “Freaky Girls.”
Closing off the Bacchanal Launch will be St. Kitts Road March Champions 2017-2018, Small Axe Band, who promise to send revellers home hyped, wet and satisfied. They will be performing various hit songs including their 2017 Road March song, “Drop De Puppy.” This event will be hosted by Dutty Sham with musical entertainment by Deejay Vybz, The Riddim Master.
“We are encouraging both French and Dutch-side residents to attend this event as it was organized with you in mind. The event is free of charge, and booths will be selling food and drinks,” Raspail added.
