COLE BAY–Movie enthusiasts can breathe a sigh of relief as the country’s leading entertainment venue, Caribbean Cinemas, is expected to reopen in June with modern amenities such as leather high-back rocking chairs with more legroom, 3D technology and online ticketing.
The reopening of what the company promises to be a fully-remodelled cinema at the end of June comes nine months after ferocious Hurricane Irma destroyed the facility on September 6, 2017.
Caribbean Cinemas Sales and Marketing Coordinator for the Eastern Caribbean Region and Aruba Noelia Alsina told The Daily Herald that Hurricanes Irma and Maria had inflicted “extensive” damage on the facility totalling in excess of US $2.5 million.
“Some of the amenities of the [remodelled – Ed.] theatre will be leather high-back rocking chairs with added legroom and cup-holder armrests, four stadium-seating auditoriums, online ticketing and enhanced dining menu, among others,” Alsina said.
“The remodelled cinema will be fully equipped with 100 per cent digital projection, 3D technology and high-definition surround sound.” She said Caribbean Cinemas of St. Maarten will continue to be “an entertainment destination” for children, youths and adults.
The theatre plans to issue more detailed information on the remodelled facility prior to welcoming customers back after Irma’s destruction, including the list of movies scheduled to run from the reopening day.
