GEBE engine issues cause outage Wed. | THE DAILY HERALD

PHILIPSBURG–Lights, fans and air conditioning units went off in homes and businesses in several districts on Wednesday after utilities company GEBE began experiencing “issues” with one of its engines.

Just after 1:00pm, GEBE spokesperson Paula Gordon alerted the media to the problem. The first areas to be without power were Belvedere, Dutch Quarter, Bishop Hill, parts of Oyster Pond and surrounding areas, parts of Cole Bay, parts of Airport Road, Over the Bank, parts of Philipsburg and parts of Point Blanche.

Around 1:22pm, Gordon said some additional areas were out of power including parts of Pelican, parts of Cay Hill and Saunders. She said the team at the power plant had been busy “working on the issue.” Around 3:15pm, Gordon said power had been restored to Belvedere, Dutch Quarter, Bishop Hill, parts of Oyster Pond and surrounding areas, Cole Bay, Over the Bank, parts of Philipsburg and parts of Point Blanche.

Saunders, Cay Hill, parts of Bush Road area and Pelican area were still out of power as two cables were still out around this time. However, by 4:06pm all areas had been restored.
