PHILIPSBURG–Utilities Company GEBE’s new 11.2 megawatt Wärtsilä engine arrived in the country on Thursday.
The engine was offloaded at the harbour under the supervision of Wärtsilä technicians and GEBE’s Interim Managing Directors Iris Arrindell and Kenrick Chittick.
The engine, which has to be coupled with a generator that was offloaded last week, will be transported to its permanent location within the next 10 days, GEBE said in a press release issued late last night.
The new generator will replace aged generator units that have “plagued the company for the last few months with increased maintenance,” GEBE said. The newest phase of the power plant will help the water and light company continue to meet the increasing demand for power on the island.
