PHILIPSBURG–Finance Minister Perry Geerlings is aiming to have the draft 2020 budget submitted “on time” to the Parliament of St. Maarten.
He told reporters earlier this week during the Council of Ministers press briefing that work is still being done with the budget.
“We are busy with it,” he said, adding that deficits can be expected in the 2020 fiscal year, the last year that deficits are expected.
“Right now, we are now putting together the concept budget for 2020. There is some serious tweaking that still needs to be done because every ministry has their wish list once more, but a wish list versus having no money is always a very tedious exercise to bring it within the ceiling put by the Ministry of Finance,” he said.
“We are still aiming to have the budget presented to Parliament on time. If that’s not going to happen then we will inform … first and foremost Parliament, about any possible delay, but right now our aim is to have it in the House of Parliament on time.”
