PHILIPSBURG–Finance Minister Perry Geerlings met the three St. Maarten representatives on the Central Bank of Curaçao and St. Maarten (CBCS) Supervisory Board on Tuesday ahead of his ongoing visit to Curaçao for the presentation of the CBCS Strategic Plan 2018-2022.
The CBCS began development of its strategic plan earlier this year and has engaged “external stakeholders” to first understand the general impression among the community about the level of service it provides.
The bank later announced that its new vision, mission, and core values would be part of the strategic plan entitled “Openness, Agility, and Customer-Friendly.”
St. Maarten’s supervisory board members Ahmed Bell, Dennis Richardson and Ajamu Baly are also in Curaçao for the presentation.
While in Curaçao, Geerlings will meet the entire CBCS Supervisory Board, during which he will discuss some outstanding matters relating to the bank’s St. Maarten branch.
Geerlings is also to meet with the Committee for Financial Supervision CFT Secretariat. He hopes to delve into the issue of liquidity support and further discuss Article 25 of the Kingdom Law on Temporary Financial Supervision which allows St. Maarten to operate with a budget deficit and to request budgetary support.
St. Maarten’s request for liquidity support from the Dutch Government is also on the agenda. The Kingdom Council of Ministers is expected to handle the request today, Friday.
