Gendarme arrests halt drug dealing in St. Barths | THE DAILY HERALD

MARIGOT–Four individuals from St. Martin and Guadeloupe were arrested in St. Barths on Monday, July 23, on suspicion of selling cannabis and cocaine on the street near a liquor store in Gustavia, St. Barths, the prosecutor’s office reported in a release.

The suspects, ages 25 to 30 years, are residents of St. Barths and all drug users. The arrests followed a preliminary investigation followed by a period of physical surveillance and telephone tapping by the detachment of the Gendarmerie’s research section in St. Martin.

The arrest operation was launched on July 23 in the morning. Seven persons were taken into custody and seven different places were searched. No stashes of narcotics were found.

Four of the suspects were notified of a summons to appear before the criminal court in the annex of the courthouse in St. Martin on November 15, 2018 on charges of purchase, transport, possession and transfer of narcotics.

However, two have already been imprisoned in Baie Mahault in execution of sentences related to the possession and transfer of narcotics. Investigations are continuing into identifying suppliers and consumers.
