Traffic controls by the Gendarmerie are likely over the Easter weekend.
MARIGOT–The Gendarmerie has indicated traffic controls will be conducted over the Easter weekend with emphasis on spotting excessive consumption of alcohol, use of narcotics, and reckless driving of two-wheeled vehicles without helmets and other safety equipment.
St. Martin and St. Barths have recorded 14 accidents involving personal injury since the beginning of the year. Sixteen persons have been injured and there have been two fatalities. Faced with this phenomenon, the Gendarmerie has multiplied controls in recent days, such as the one conducted on Saturday, March 24, at the Hope Estate roundabout by the motorised brigade of St. Martin with the support of the Republican Guard Intervention platoon.
On that occasion, four driving licence infractions were recorded, two instances of drivers under the influence of alcohol, and two under the influence of drugs.
