Gendarmerie seeks shooting witnesses | THE DAILY HERALD

MARIGOT–The Gendarmerie has launched an appeal for witnesses to a shooting that took place during a youth football match in Louis Vanterpool Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

An unknown person fired shots in the direction of spectators in the bleachers, causing one young man to be struck by a bullet. It was understood the victim is being treated in hospital and his life is not in danger. Anyone who has information that could lead to identifying the shooter is asked to call the Gendarmerie (0590) 52.30.11 or go in person to the station in Concordia, Marigot, or La Savane.

President Daniel Gibbs condemned the shooting, sending this message: “I went to the scene, in the presence of the Gendarmes, to reassure the families and sports leaders present. The competition scheduled at the Vanterpool Stadium tomorrow, Sunday, will be cancelled for safety reasons, pending the arrest of the alleged shooter.

“Fortunately, the young victim’s days are not in danger and there were no further injuries. I would like to commend the response by Commander Basso of the Gendarmerie, who is doing everything possible to find the alleged perpetrator. I ask those who have witnessed the events or who have information to immediately contact the Gendarmerie.”
