COLE BAY–The Produce Wealth Revolution (PWR) Agency’s recent invitation-only breakfast discussion with key stakeholders about “Do Business in Paradise: Challenges and Opportunities” doubled as an award ceremony during which I Change Nations (ICN) recognised five persons in St. Maarten for their community contributions.
The global organisation connected with the United Nations said its representatives had observed the resilience of the St. Maarten people and sought to honour locals who have shown exemplary work particularly in the aftermath of Hurricane Irma.
ICN is dedicated to building a culture of honour and is focused on promoting civility, peace and sustainable development.
Honouree Marvio Cooks, a civil servant and community leader in the area of technology, received the ICN Regional Statesman Award for his dedication to helping others in the aftermath of the hurricanes.
Alita Singh, a media specialist, was appointed the ICN Community Ambassador and received the Women Add Value Award for her commitment to informing the public accurately about the issues and her community influence through media and social endeavours.
Anastacio Baker, executive director of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry and an entrepreneur, received the ICN Golden Rule Business Award for his impact on the business community. Chamber board president Stanley Lint received this award on Baker’s behalf.
Ife Badejo, PWR Agency head, innovator and speaker, received the ICN Women of Global Solutions Award for her commitment to finding innovative solutions.
Badejo also received John A.M. Sandiford’s certificate on his behalf, as he was not yet on the island. Sandiford received the ICN Global Leadership Award for his work in the Netherlands to help better the Caribbean region.
Dr. Vernet Joseph, an ICN Senior Advisor World Civility Ambassador presented the certificates of recognition to honourees on behalf of Dr. Clyde Rivers.
The breakfast discussion featured keynote speakers St. Maartener and author Dr. Jamal Cummins, and Dr. Will Moreland, a leadership life trainer in the United States. Joseph and Moreland have visited St. Maarten in the past to help to develop entrepreneurs and to work with community and government leaders.
The breakfast was also the forum in which the initial details of a six-week regional accelerator programme called “360: Do Business in Paradise” was introduced to the stakeholders. The programme is set for November 5 to December 15 and will concurrently aid entrepreneurs in St. Maarten, Curaçao, Aruba, Anguilla, and Suriname.
This programme will end with the 360 Gala Awards Ceremony in St. Maarten on December 15 that will bring together the entrepreneurs from the various islands and includes a pitch competition.
