MARIGOT–Young Business and Professional Women (BPW) Concordia St. Martin representative Luciana Vieira Gomes is Young BPW’s delegate at the 63rd session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW63) taking place at the United Nations (UN) headquarters in New York, March 11-22. She will be leaving St. Martin for the event on March 7.

“I am extremely excited to see our Young BPW representative undertake this life-changing experience of attending the Leaders’ Summit and the CSW63 at the United Nations,” said BPW Concordia President Kathia Magdeleine.

The theme for this year is Social Protection System, Access to Public Services and Sustainable Infrastructure for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women and Girls.

The Leaders’ Summit is a BPW International leadership training platform during which Gomes will also have the opportunity to network, meet international executives and other BPW members from around the world.

“Her participation as a delegate at the CSW63 will allow her to see first-hand how decisions are made at the United Nations,” BPW Concordia said in its release. “What is even more enriching is the fact that by being present she will have the opportunity of lending voice to champion the causes that are important to her. She will also become more aware of efforts, challenges and opportunities relating to world issues such as the Sustainable Development Goals.

“Our association is strengthened every time a member is trained in leadership and serves as a UN delegate because they experience a renewal of their commitment to the club’s causes and mission. The two initiatives greatly empower members and, in so doing, help to solidify the club’s purpose.”

The Young BPW (YBPW) division of BPW comprises women ages 18-35. The Young BPW representative is an elected member of the BPW Concordia executive committee. She has the responsibility of looking after the best interest of younger members. This is one of BPW’s ways of bridging the generation gap.

“We are confident that YBPW Luciana Vieira Gomes will make us proud at the Leaders’ Summit and in her role as a CSW3 delegate. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate her and thank her for being an active participating member of BPW Concordia SXM,” concluded Magdeleine.

Gomes is the YBPW Public Relations and Marketing Assistant. She is sponsored for this mission by ECOFIP (Ingenierie et Financement Outre-Mer).
