Government to look into replacing Library’s panels

PHILIPSBURG–Government is looking into options to replace several damaged solar panels at Philipsburg Jubilee Library. The panels were damaged when Hurricane Gonzalo barrelled through the local area in 2014.

The panels should have been removed prior to the passing of the storm, “but no one went to the roof,” said Prime Minister William Marlin last week following a meeting he had with Library management. He noted that the panels were installed using an easy to remove method. Fifteen of the panels were salvaged.

The solar panels were not only a way of cutting the library’s energy cost, the project was aimed at teaching children and adults about alternative energy and care for the environment.

Along with the installation of the panels in 2013, the library was charged with changing all of its light bulbs to light-emitting diode (LED) ones and replacing its air conditioners to energy-efficient units.
