Governor explains UK-funded projects | THE DAILY HERALD

ANGUILLA–In an interview on Radio Anguilla, Governor Tim Foy outlined some of the projects underway and planned using the sixty million pounds sterling from the UK government that was given after Hurricane Irma. He said the pace of work on all projects would be increased in 2019.

The upgrade to the wards at the hospital was noted last week at the launching of the Maternity Wing of the Princess Alexandra Hospital. Another project is the temporary terminal at Blowing Point for persons leaving and arriving by ferry from St. Martin. He said there were 300,000 crossings a year on average and it was an important facility. The building formerly used by Dolphin Discovery is being converted for passenger arrivals and departures and will be in place for a two-year period while the new terminal is built. Regarding health, he said designs had been approved for the Valley Polyclinic and small renovations had been made to the Welches Polyclinic. He said the South Hill clinic needed to be re-built.

Much needs to be done for the schools. The Albena Lake Hodge Comprehensive School is being totally re-built and Foy said the UK government was waiting for the final proposals. He stressed the need to get this built and the need to get the students out of the shift system that has been in place since Hurricane Irma. Regarding the primary schools, the governor said the Alwyn Allison renovations had been completed and tenders were out for the Adrian Hazell School. An extension is being built at the Orealia Kelly Primary School and will include extra bathrooms. The Morris Vanterpool School will be rebuilt as it was totally destroyed and work is expected to commence on this by March/April 2019.

The Road Bay jetty is still to be built although the first tenders were not accepted. It will be longer and twice as wide as the existing jetty and will be able to accommodate four ships at a time.
