Grand Case barricades removed, access Marigot to French Qtr open | THE DAILY HERALD

MARIGOT—Gendarmes removed the barricades positioned at the start of RN7 by-pass in Grand Case during Sunday night, enabling traffic circulation to resume between Marigot and French Quarter, the Préfecture reported in an update Monday.

Gendarmes came under attack from projectiles thrown from roofs but were able to prevent the barricades from being re-assembled. Barricades still remain in place in French Quarter and Sandy Ground.

On Rue de Hollande a road block remains in place close to the Agrément roundabout but access to Marigot is still possible via the Galisbay back road, and in the other direction for Grand Case and Orient Bay.

The Préfecture recommends the public avoid Sandy Ground and French Quarter and remain vigilant on roads that are open. There is still a lot of debris remaining from the protests. The Collectivité noted it has resumed a clean-up in areas that are still accessible.

Primary and secondary schools remained closed on Monday. The situation will be revaluated for Tuesday. Ferry terminal and airports are functioning as normal. Access to Princess Juliana Airport is possible via Bellevue.

Gendarmes remain vigilant and visible to assist with circulation on the main roads, to prevent any acts of violence and any attempts to erect new barricades.

French Overseas Minister Annick Girardin gave an interview to Guadeloupe Premier Radio on Sunday evening at 6:00pm. She confirmed dialogue is continuing on the subject of the natural risk prevention plan PPRN, the source of the conflict, to find a solution. She has appealed for calm in St. Martin to facilitate negotiations.
