PHILIPSBURG–The leadership team and staff of Grant Thornton in St. Maarten hosted its official opening celebration together with government officials, clients and other persons on Friday, September 21.
Grant Thornton announced on August 1 a significant expansion to its network in the Dutch Caribbean with the addition of offices in Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao and St. Maarten, providing coverage across the wider Dutch Caribbean, including Saba and St. Eustatius. The official “on-boarding” in St. Maarten took place on Friday, as repairs to the office building still needed to be completed after Hurricane Irma.
“The client event was very well-attended by clients from a wide range of business,” the company said in a press release on Monday.
Speakers included Minister of Finance Perry Geerlings, who recognised the significance of the presence in St. Maarten of a global firm such as Grant Thornton that forms part of an international network of professional service providers.
Services provided by these firms are of high quality, as they combine knowledge from their local markets with the global know-how available to them to help unlock their customers’ potential for growth. This growth will then be reflected in the further development and growth of the island’s economy, it was stated in the release.
Grant Thornton Regional Leader of the Americas Roy Buddle said Grant Thornton has developed a solid presence across the Caribbean region. The Dutch Caribbean is a strategically important market, with significant trade flows into the United States as well as strong business and cultural connections with the Netherlands and, therefore, the world’s biggest consumer market in Europe.
In St. Maarten the team will be led by Tax Partner Paul van Vliet, Business and Accounting Services Partner Herbert Beldman and Associate Partner Petra Pupping.
Van Vliet presented a donation of behalf of the firm to Dr. Gerard van Osch of the St. Maarten AIDS Foundation as a token of encouragement for “the great work” the foundation is doing in bringing more awareness in the country about HIV and AIDS.
Van Vliet said the new firm slogan “Instinct for growth” reflects the vision they have for the firm and for their clients in future.
