Guard fires warning shots at man trying to throw bag over prison wall | THE DAILY HERALD

POINTE BLANCHE–A guard at the Pointe Blanche prison foiled a man’s attempt to throw a “black plastic bag” over the prison wall on Tuesday, when he fired two warning shots at the man during his effort to get the bag into the prison compound.

The guard, who was on duty in one of the towers at the prison at the time, noticed the unknown man, who had his face covered with a white T-shirt and was wearing dark blue-jeans, attempting to throw a black plastic bag over the wall of the institution. The incident occurred around 7:50am.

The guard then fired two warning shots and the suspect fled the scene through the bushes, failing in his attempt to throw the bag and its contents over the wall.

According to witnesses, the suspect then jumped into a black SUV that was parked in the area and he and the driver of that vehicle fled the Pointe Blanche area.

Several police patrols and detectives were sent to the scene to investigate what had taken place, police spokesperson Chief Inspector Ricardo Henson said in a police press release on Tuesday.

Based on the information that was gathered during the investigation, a suspect identified as J.A.J. (20) was arrested and taken to the police headquarters in Philipsburg where he is being held for questioning and further investigation.

No one was injured during this incident.

The investigation continues.
