ST. EUSTATIUS--The Gwendoline van Putten School (GvP) announced the arrival of its first Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) certificates for students in the Caribbean Vocational Qualification (CVQ) programme. The certificates have been awarded in Food Preparation and Cookery Level 2, General Construction Level 2, and Welding Level 2.

This achievement is an important milestone in the continued rebuilding and strengthening of GvP's CVQ Department. The School representative said that this reflects the determination of the students and the sustained commitment of the instructors, assessors, school leadership, CVQ team, and external partners who supported them throughout the certification process.

These certificates represent far more than the completion of a programme. They formally recognise the knowledge, practical skills, and competencies students developed through classroom learning, hands-on training, assessment, and workplace-related experiences. The qualifications can support students as they continue their education, pursue further training, or prepare to enter the workforce.

The School warmly congratulated all of the students receiving certificates and commended them for the effort, perseverance, and commitment that brought the youngsters to this important moment. Further certificates are expected to arrive toward the end of August. Parents and guardians of students whose certificates are still forthcoming will be contacted once the certificates have been received and the necessary arrangements have been finalised.

GvP extended special recognition to the instructors who worked directly with students, providing practical instruction, guidance, encouragement, and preparation: Ms. Shaminda Gibbs – Food Preparation and Cookery Level 2; Mr. David Archibald – General Construction Level 2; Mr. Clinton Stewart – Welding Level 2; and Mr. Andrew Brathwaite – CVQ Support Specialist.

"Their dedication has been instrumental in helping students develop and demonstrate the competencies required for certification," said CVQ Coordinator and Teacher Rijziena Hooker. "The receipt of these first certificates is an encouraging step in the continued development of vocational education at GvP. It also demonstrates the progress being made in strengthening the documentation, assessment, verification, and student-support systems required for a sustainable and successful CVQ programme," said Ms. Hooker.

While important work remains ahead, GvP is proud of what has been achieved and remains committed to expanding meaningful opportunities that equip students with practical skills and recognised qualifications for their future.
