ANGUILLA–The hearing of the manslaughter case for Gavin Scot Hapgood took place in Anguilla last week. The hearing has now been adjourned until November 11, when more witnesses are expected. The Magistrate, Keithly Benjamin will then make a decision as to whether the case will go to trial. No comments were made about the preliminary inquiry as the hearing was closed.
Hapgood, of Connecticut, was arrested and charged by the Royal Anguilla Police Force for the offence of manslaughter. The charge followed the death on Saturday, April 13, of a national of Dominica, 27-year-old Kenny Mitchel, who was resident in Anguilla and worked at one of the island’s hotels in the West End. Hapgood says it was a case of self-defence.
