Nurses in St. Eustatius participated in a walkathon and sports hour in celebration of International Nurses Day on Friday.
“Our nurses are the backbone of our Statia health care system and have a lot to celebrate,” said public health care specialist and researcher Dr. Teresa Leslie. “The Day also coincides with the anniversary of Florence Nightingale, a British pioneer of nursing. The parade was a delight with much singing from those devoted nightingales.” The events, which were organised in cooperation with Leoncio “Zhivago” Lopes and concluded at Cottage Ball Park, were held to help promote and raise awareness of the importance of walking and exercise.
