AIRPORT–A heavy rainfall advisory is in effect through Sunday midday, the Meteorological Department advised on Friday evening.
A deepening upper-level trough, abundant tropical moisture and low-level moisture convergence will combine to produce a very unstable atmosphere. As a result, heavy showers and isolated thunderstorms are likely to occur within the forecast area.
These heavy showers could lead to localised flooding over sections of the island. Residents are urged by Met Office to avoid driving on flooded streets until the heavy rainfall has tapered off or ended and the floodwaters have subsided.
In case there are lightning strikes very close to your location (loud thunder, less than three seconds between lightning discharge and thunder), switch off and disconnect any sensitive electronic equipment. Also, disconnect any phone line from your computer.
A Special Bulletin is issued for weather events that are unusual, cause general inconvenience or public concern (requiring the attention and/or action of authorities) and cannot adequately be described in a regular weather forecast.
A heavy rainfall advisory is issued when heavy rainfall is expected to occur, but confidence in that occurrence is moderate (more than 30 per cent but less than 60 per cent).
