The tropical wave (2) located over the eastern tropical Atlantic a few hundred miles south of the Cabo Verde Islands continued to produce a broad area of shower activity on Tuesday afternoon. No significant development of this system was expected for the next few days while it moves westward at 15-20 miles per hour. Upper-level winds could become more conducive for development by the weekend while the wave continues westward across the central Atlantic. The cyclone formation chance was low through both 48 hours (near 0 per cent) and five days (20 per cent).
AIRPORT–A new heavy rainfall advisory was issued by the Meteorological Department as of 5:00pm Tuesday and will remain in effect until noon today, Wednesday.
The advisory is related to the convection associated with another approaching tropical wave that began affecting the already unstable local atmosphere yesterday evening. It probably will produce periods of scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms along with gusty winds, and some of these showers could be heavy at times.
Due to already saturated soil from recent rainfall, flooding, rockfall and/or landslides remain a threat in vulnerable areas. The Met Department advises residents and motorists to exercise caution when in these areas and/or avoid them whenever possible.
This comes after the first heavy rainfall advisory for the week was discontinued at 6:00am Tuesday after Monday’s very rainy weather due to a tropical wave.
