PHILIPSBURG–Heineken Americas and its island distributor International Liquor and Tobacco Trading (ILTT) will be distributing more than 100,000 bottles of drinking water to needy persons and organizations at the St. Maarten Festival Village on Wednesday, October 4, from 9:00am to 6:00pm. Volunteers will be on hand to distribute the water. One case will be given out per person. Heineken Managing Director of Heineken Americas Export Andrea Vogliazzo said the company is deeply saddened by the tragedies caused by Hurricanes Irma and Maria. “While we are glad that all our colleagues and distributors’ team members are safe, the population of the islands impacted is now in dire need of basic necessities and the infrastructure is very severely damaged. Heineken is concentrating its relief efforts in the areas where we can make a difference,” Vogliazzo said.
By leveraging Windward and Leeward Brewery Ltd., HEINEKEN’s OpCo in St Lucia, Heineken Americas sent more than 100,000 liters of water to St. Maarten/St. Martin to be deployed locally through volunteers.
“Without electricity, it is impossible to start the rebuilding effort and to sustain day-to-day life. In partnership with Diageo, Heineken is coordinating 400 generators to be sent to Puerto Rico, Barbuda, St. Maarten, Dominica and British Virgin Islands. Where possible, Heineken is also supporting its Distributors with warehousing and logistic solutions to ensure business continuity,” it was stated in a press release.
Heineken Americas said it will work in partnership with its distributors to support the team members who have lost their houses and belongings. “Several of our brewery operations in the Caribbean are also organising donations of non-perishable items from their own employees. Additionally, we will direct the proceeds from our upcoming Heineken sponsorships events in the Caribbean toward several local charity organizations,” it was stated in the release.
“It will be a long journey to get back to normality, but the extraordinary people of the Caribbean are famous for their resilience and resolve. Heineken has a decades-long connection with the islands impacted, and we hope that our efforts will help them recover as quickly as possible.”
