President Gibbs, Vice-Recteur Michel Sanz, and Vice-President Annick Pétrus presented students with the digital materials on Wednesday.
MARIGOT—Students from the two Lycées in Marigot and Cité Scolaire in La Savane have received a significant amount of digital materials to assist them in their studies at home during the coronavirus COVID-19 crisis.
Since the announcement by President of the Republic on closure of schools to prevent the spread of COVID-19, Recteur of the Academic Region of Guadeloupe, Mostafa Fourar, has been doing everything possible to maintain links with all students using all available tools.
President of the Collectivité Daniel Gibbs and Third Vice-President in charge of education Annick Pétrus wanted to support the distance learning system set up by National Education.
To this end, and in conjunction with the National Education service and telephone/internet provider Dauphin Telecom, they provided 67 students in the Terminale section with tablets and wifi routers. These students had previously been identified as lacking in digital solutions for studying at home.
The students will now be able to communicate with their teachers and continue the learning necessary to obtain the Baccalaureate. In total the Collectivité made available 67 digital tablets, 47 routers, 20 hubs and 67 SIM cards (4G).
This equipment is made available to the students in the form of an agreement. The tablets had previously been acquired as part of the digital development plan financed 50% by the State and 50% by the Collectivité. The Collectivité paid for the purchase of the 47 routers and Internet subscriptions for the pupils.
Gibbs and Vice-President Pétrus handed over these tablets and routers to the Terminale students in each of the two high schools on Wednesday, April 8, in the presence of Vice-Recteur Michel Sanz, the management of the two high schools and their teams, and the education and information systems departments of the Collectivité who prepared this distribution, according to a rigorous compliance with the COVID-19 health and safety rules currently in place.
