ANGUILLA–On Friday, November 30, Wallblake House Tourism Project was officially opened. It is a project by the Ministry of Tourism and many persons were involved in setting it up.

Jansie Webster, President of the Anguilla Archaeological and Historical Society said it was a major achievement to see Wallblake House open again and applauded the Ministry of Tourism and Jasmin Garroway who headed the team. She said Wallblake House was one of three historical houses still standing in Anguilla and a living part of the island’s history.

Patricia Beard recalled the use of Wallblake House for Catholic services before the church was built. She said the team had done an outstanding job and she was happy that Anguilla’s past was being well presented. She said it would be ideal for the younger generation to learn of the past. “Let us join together to preserve our past, to secure our future,” she said.

Parliamentary Secretary Cardigan Connor apologised for the absence of Chief Minister Victor Banks who was preparing to leave the island for the Joint Ministerial Council meetings in London. He spoke of the need to diversify the tourism product and suggested that the Wallblake House project would be an attraction to tourists. He praised Garroway for what had been achieved and said the Anguilla Tourist Board and the overseas representatives would be glad as history is important.

Tourism planner and consultant Garroway recalled that the project had been started in October 2015 with the signing of an agreement by Bishop Kenneth Richards on behalf of the Catholic Church and Chief Minister Victor Banks. The property belongs to the church and the bishop was very supportive of the project. Garroway said there had been a great effort by many people to achieve the opening of the project and she thanked the many persons who had assisted during its progress.

The ribbon to open the Wallblake House Heritage Tourism Project was cut by Parliamentary Secretary Connor, Ministerial Assistant Evalie Bradley and Leader of the Opposition Palmavon Webster. Persons attending the launching were then allowed to view inside the house.
