House of Assembly meets Friday for 2 bills, 3 opposition questions | THE DAILY HERALD

ANGUILLA–Parliamentarians will meet on Friday, January 4, for the passing of two bills. The Bill for Companies (Amendment Act) 2019 will receive its first, second and third readings and the Bill for Limited Liability (Amendment Act) 2019 will also get three readings.

Leader of the Opposition Palmavon Webster is to ask Minister of Social Development Evans McNiel Rogers two questions and Minister of Home Affairs Cora Richardson-Hodge one question.

The first question to Rogers is what percentages of Health Authority funds are spent on salaries and on medicines, and what his plans are to ensure that seniors, the indigent, the unemployed and students have full National Health Insurance coverage. Her second question to Rogers is about the fly and rodent infestation at the Corito Landfill and the resulting poor air quality. She is to ask what action the minister has already taken and what steps are proposed for the future to ensure that residents’ health is not damaged, as well as what effects the pollution has on health.

The question to Richardson-Hodge is also in relation to the Landfill. She is to ask how many of the residents in that vicinity have complained about the fly and rodent infestation and the poor air quality, and what steps the minister has taken and proposes to take, to mitigate any potential impact the Landfill may have on the environment. She will also ask what compensation has been awarded to any residents, what steps she proposes to compensate residents for any potential health challenges and what assurances she can give to residents of their future protection.
