Housing Foundation repairs ‘progressing’ | THE DAILY HERALD

BELVEDERE–As of June, 121 homes under the umbrella of St. Maarten Housing Development Foundation in Belvedere, Hope Estate and the mobile homes have been fully repaired.

Another 218 homes are pending repair completion. The foundation hopes to continue to process these as the year continues.

“There were several delays to the repair activities for SMHDF,” said Director Helen Salomons. “However, through focused efforts and the World Bank-managed Trust Fund monies, we have accomplished a great deal so far this year.”

Salomons and Technical Director Telston Bell said the goal is to complete all minor and major repairs before the year’s end.

The pace of repairs picked up with the selection of Caines Construction and Maintenance (CCM) to execute the repair of roofs and ceilings in the Belvedere units on streets including Anna Hoop Estate, Delight Estate, Foga Estate, Buck Hole Estate, Freeland Estate and Careta Estate. The company has completed the roof and ceiling of some 81 units across these Belvedere streets, and has begun work on 30 units on Sugar Mill Estate Road.

“In Delight Estate Road, there were repairs required for doors and windows, as well as roofs,” Salomons said. “The materials for this were received in April and replacement of windows began in June. Appointments will be scheduled with the tenants in a different street once Delight Estate is complete.”

The foundation said it looks forward to the continued cooperation of its tenants as repairs continue to move forward.
