Impressed with recovery

001-1

Captain Simon Boddger of cruise ship “Mein Schiff 6” said he was “amazed with the rebuilding effort” on the island following the devastation of Hurricane Irma in September 2017. He brought his ship into port for her inaugural call on Friday.

This was Boddger’s first time here. “Mein Schiff 6” was originally scheduled to call in November 2017. Tourism Minister Cornelius de Weever and representatives of Port St. Maarten, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Tourist Bureau welcomed the ship.

TUI Cruises, owner of the new cruise ship, caters to the German market. That market and Europe as a whole are “very important for our destination,” said De Weever. “Our country has to be at the forefront of trends and developments that are taking place in sustainable cruise tourism in order to maximise the benefits and cruise tourism experiences for passengers.”
