PHILIPSBURG–Teachers and persons who work in the school system desirous of owning their own homes are urged to attend an information session facilitated by the General Pension Fund Administrator APS at the Belair Community Centre on Thursday, March 1, from 3:00 to 4:30pm.
During the session APS will make a presentation on its latest housing development project for civil servants.
The session is a follow-up to a recent meeting of Education Minister Jorien Wuite and Windward Islands Teachers Union (WITU) President Claire Elshot-Aventurin with APS representatives in which the need for affordable housing solutions was discussed. Also discussed was the possibility of supplemental pension options for teachers who may need to boost their contributions.
“As I continue to meet with school boards and teachers one of the recurring grievances I hear is the high cost of rent. Teachers, management and administrators have the profound responsibility of training and guiding our children; our nation’s next generation,” Wuite said in a press release on Thursday.
“Their psycho-social well-being is of utmost importance; this initiative attempts to address this need. I therefore urge all teachers desirous of owning their own homes to come to the information session to explore this opportunity.”
Invitation letters have been sent to school boards to disseminate to their respective teachers and staff. As seating is limited, interested persons are asked to RSVP to
