WILLEMSTAD–Curaçao-based InselAir has come under some scrutiny and criticism regarding its recent decision to reduce its number of functions by some 250. The crisis-hit carrier says it is very familiar with the labour regulations and the laws of the island as it pertains to actions to be taken in the event of a reduction of personnel.
“Contrary to the various negative opinions and references presented in several media, InselAir reconfirms its full compliance with the procedures prescribed and of the authorised calendar. The names of the employees concerned were tabled with the authorities within the timeframe allowed by the law,” stated a press release.
The company has confirmed to all the workers affected that it will honour all financial obligations mandated by local legislation and provided them with a provisory financial statement. The staff members were also invited to contact management for any further information they may require.
“When informed of their redundancy, every employee was given the reasons as to why the position was redundant and informed that the principle of ‘last in, first out’ was applied and that the entire process, which is out of the control of InselAir, could take up to 12 weeks,” the release added.
The process is totally dependent on the time required by the Ministry of Social Development, Labour and Wellbeing SOAW to execute the required dismissal procedures.
