PHILIPSBURG–There will be three bands and one deejay on the road for the annual Causeway Jump-Up this Saturday, the first official event of the 2017 Carnival season. St. Maarten Carnival Development Foundation (SCDF) said it is “excited to finally put months of preparation into action and host St. Maarten’s 48th annual Carnival festivities.”
The Traffic Department of the Police Force of St. Maarten conducted inspections of the four trucks and trailers this past Saturday, with all passing the inspections. Truck operators now have until Wednesday, March 15, to present all relevant vehicle documents and drivers’ licenses to the Traffic Department. Each truck is required to have two licensed drivers.
The Traffic Department has already issued a full inspection schedule for all road events for the Carnival season. SCDF in turn has distributed this schedule to all sponsors, troupe leaders, etc., who tend to have a presence on the road annually.
The three bands and one deejay expected on the road on Saturday, March 18, are DJ Mixmaster Pauly, TG Band, Xplosion Band and reigning Band of the Year No Limit Band.
The route of the Causeway Jump-Up is slightly different this year. It begins at Kim Sha Beach at 8:00pm; makes its way over the Simpson Bay bridge, down the Simpson Bay stretch, over the causeway, up Union Road until it arrives at the Kruythoff roundabout. It will then proceed over Cole Bay Hill and end in the vicinity of Le Grand Marché.
“This is our first event. The Causeway Jump-Up has become almost traditional during the Carnival season. We look forward to clean fun and a good time. Any troublemakers will be dealt with severely by law enforcement, so we urge everyone to just have a great time. There is plenty in store for Carnival 2017 and we’re excited to get the first one underway,” SCDF said.
