It’s a wrap

Chairman of the Dutch Parliament Second Chamber’s Permanent Committee for Kingdom Relations Alexander Pechtold and Senator Meta Meijer concluded their visit to St. Maarten on Wednesday.

They were part of a team of international observers here Monday’s elections. Head of the Dutch Representation Office Chris Johnson updated Pechtold and Meijer on Tuesday about the reconstruction progress. They toured the island and visited the White and Yellow Cross Foundation to learn about the job-training and roof-repair programmes supported by early Dutch recovery funds. At I Can Foundation, they heard about experiences of staff and children during the hurricane and about needed repairs. Pechtold has visited I Can on every trip he has made here in the past 13 years. He encouraged people on and off the island to help groups such as I Can “whenever they can.” The delegation had dinner with members of the community to discuss the reconstruction following Hurricane Irma. Pechtold and Meijer also had meetings with Governor Eugene Holiday and Parliament Chairwoman Sarah Wescot-Williams. “It is always great having high-level delegations here that continue to keep the focus on St. Maarten and its need for help and recovery,” said Johnson.
