Jam-packed weekend to usher in Carnival 2018 | THE DAILY HERALD

ST. EUSTATIUS–A weekend jam-packed with events is set to usher in Statia Carnival 2018, which will kick off on Tuesday, July 17.

Starting off this weekend’s pre-Carnival festivities is A Taste of Candy Land, hosted by the Junior Carnival Queen Show/Little Miss Statia at the Golden Rock Playground today, Friday, 4:30pm to 6:30pm.

During the event visitors will have a chance to design their own pastries and candy. They will also have a chance to win tickets to the Junior Carnival Queen/Little Miss Statia Pageant.

Starting at 7:00pm, the Ragz N’ Flagz Band event will take place at Mike van Putten Youth Centre, baptized Carnival City for the duration of the Carnival season. The show will be featuring Jamm Boyzz, Rebels Band and Turbulanzz Band and the Grand Master Band from St. Kitts.

St. Eustatius Softball Association will be having two games at Cranston Ball Park on Saturday. The first game between The Thunders and City Boyz will be starting at 4:00pm, to be followed by The Dynamite versus Lions.

Saturday’s action continues with the Dance N’ Zig Zag event featuring headliner Burning Flames, Jamm Boyzz band and other performers on stage at Carnival City, starting at 8:00pm.

On Sunday afternoon, a Motocross Race Day will take place at the Quarter Mile on the Road to Zeelandia, starting at 11:30am. The Race Day will feature competitors from across the Caribbean, such as from St. Maarten and Curaçao, and one competitor from the United States.

Many of the bikes were shipped to St. Eustatius in containers via sea vessel, which arrived on Wednesday, July 11.

Later Sunday, starting at 8:00pm, a Calypso Royalty Showcase will take place during which several Calypso artistes will take to the stage at Carnival City to showcase their talents. The show will feature King Beau, Sexy Mona and more.

Statia Carnival will kick off Tuesday, July 17, with the opening T-Shirt Madness Jump-Up with the Rebels Band Hi- Definition performing at Carnival City.
