Jewel robbers still on the run

PHILIPSBURG–Police are still on the lookout for two of the three robbers who stormed into Divinitii Jewellers on Monday morning and took merchandise from the store by smashing the glass display cases.

The men ran out of the store minutes after and were cut off by police officers who were pursuing them on foot. One of the suspects, who was recently released from serving a 14-year term in the Pointe Blanche prison, was apprehended by police, but the two other suspects managed to evade capture.

The search for the remaining suspects continues and the Police Force is asking anyone who may have information regarding this robbery to contact the Detective Department immediately by calling 542-2222 ext. 213/214, the police anonymous tip line 9300 or the Emergency Dispatch 911.

The suspect in custody has not cooperated with the police detectives thus far, but authorities believe it is only a matter of time before the other two suspects are caught.

Items stolen from the jewellery store were recovered during the suspect’s arrest. A vehicle that probably would have been used for an escape was also confiscated on Monday.

Police spokesman Chief Inspector Ricardo Henson said on Thursday that the community’s assistance is needed in this matter. “Those who saw anything that might be suspicious can call the police and give any information about the other two suspects. These persons need to be brought to justice and with the help of the public we can do that,” he said.
