Johnson: ‘I have been to parliament’ | THE DAILY HERALD

POND ISLAND–“I have been to parliament for a public meeting and attended all three question hours, as well as I have attended parliamentary meetings to support two draft initiative laws on timeshare and raising the drinking age, the latter being a nonpartisan initiative,” said Tourism and Economic Affairs TEATT Minister Stuart Johnson in response to comments from Member of Parliament (MP) Rolando Brison.

The United St. Maarten Party MP issued a press statement earlier this week expressing how miffed he was about Johnson not attending meetings of the Parliament Committee for Tourism and Economic Affairs.

Johnson, responding in the Council of Ministers press briefing on Wednesday, expressed the belief that Brison is “sore” about losing the chairmanship of that committee with the start of the 2018-2019 Parliamentary Year on the second Tuesday in September.

“I wish to clear up any misconceptions. … To claim that I have no respect for parliament or that I have not been to parliament is incorrect,” said Johnson.

He added that he respects the work of parliament. “The collective effort of parliamentarians and Ministers is vital to completing the work that is still to be done in the community, especially for the Ministry of TEATT, which is the largest ministry,” he said.
