PHILIPSBURG–All newly-formed political parties, not yet registered with the Electoral Council, have until Friday, June 24, to do so, or be barred from contesting the September 26 parliamentary elections. Nomination Day for the snap elections is August 8, in accordance with the National Decree of December 14, 2015.
Together with the written application for registration, political parties must submit to the Electoral Council a notarial deed containing the Articles of Association of the party, excerpt from St. Maarten Chamber of Commerce and Industry, statement containing the appointment of the party’s authorized representative and authorized deputy representative, together with proof of identification, and contact information and written application for registration of the reference which is to be placed above the list of candidates.
The Electoral Council stated in its press release on Tuesday that any existing political party, desirous of changing the previously-registered reference above the list of candidates, should request this by the June 24 deadline.
