ST. EUSTATIUS–The Junior Carnival Queen Pageant has come to life again on St. Eustatius. Six beautiful and talented young ladies, ranging in age from eight to ten years old, will be competing for the double titles of Junior Carnival Queen and Little Miss Statia.   The presentation of the candidates took place last week with a beauty face-painting exhibition via the Pageant’s Facebook page. Vying from the crown will be: Elshe Spanner, Navienska Cuvalay, Dayna Richardson, Cathryn Sanchez, Gercia Brown and Guillermallien Dorset.

The young contestants made their first public visit on Friday, to St. Eustatius Tourist Development Foundation (STDF) and spoke with Director Charles Lindo. He encouraged the youngsters to keep smiling, be positive and to believe in themselves. “Your smile will carry you a long way,” he said to them.

He presented each youngster with a gift bag from the Tourist Office and invited them to come and visit again.

The Junior Queen team has many more of these visits planned as it will give the young ladies exposure, bring awareness, and stimulate communication skills, as well as fun among each other.

Once a Queen Always a Queen Productions will be the host for the pageant. The organisation is headed by Sherees Timber, the Miss St. Eustatius Carnival Queen for 2015/2016. She was also the overall segment winner and first runner-up in the 2016 Miss Dutch Caribbean held on Saba during last year’s Summer Festival.

Timber has gained knowledge of the stage and show business from dancing with the Aloei Historical Dancers from the age of five. She is also the founder and choreographer of the Aloei Sophisticated Dancers.

Her aim is to contribute back to the Summer Festival and Carnival on Statia, raising the standards in pageantry as well as motivating and encouraging young ladies.

The interest and excitement is building up for this show as the Junior Queen Pageant has been dormant for many years. With the show and ideas taken to another level many persons are expecting a dynamic and exciting event.
