Justice Ministry hires more Customs and prison staff | THE DAILY HERALD

PHILIPSBURG–Minister of Justice Cornelius de Weever’s cabinet announced over the weekend that in keeping with the objectives of the governing programme and agreements made with strengthening the justice system, twenty additional prison guards at the Pointe Blanche prison and twelve Customs officers have been hired.

“Training for these 20 prison guards will begin immediately, and this is a welcome event, as the prison has been suffering from a shortage of prison guards for quite some time. I am extremely happy to see that 20 local young men and women have been hired to fill the much-needed posts at the facility.” said De Weever on Sunday.

The 12 newly-hired Customs officers will be following Customs officer training and will fill the gap of the personnel shortage at the department. Interviews were held earlier this year, and 12 motivated, dynamic young men and women were selected.

“I am elated to have the Customs Department staffed with these young, dynamic individuals who will now fill the void within the Customs Department, which is a very important department within our justice ministry,” concluded De Weever.
