The Festival Village on Thursday evening.
PHILIPSBURG–Justice Week 2018 at Festival Village started on Thursday evening under the theme “SXMstrong Justice for All.” The weeklong festivities were cut down this year due to the Justice Ministry’s budgetary constraints. The ministry decided to host smaller events, but with the same impact.
Justice Week pays homage to the men and women of the justice system in St. Maarten. The organising committee started the event on Thursday with a fireworks display, followed by a movie on the village grounds.
Minister of Justice Cornelius de Weever opened the week by welcoming all justice officials and thanked all those who continue to contribute to the justice system on the island.
“As a small island we have displayed remarkable strength despite the seemingly insurmountable challenges we’ve faced, and in so doing we’ve proven that Justice does in fact work in favour of us all. It is my hope that you will be available to help us celebrate this global event by joining us.
“I invite everyone to come out and enjoy all the activities at the Festival Village on Friday, Saturday and on Sunday, which is Justice Day. The ceremony will be held on Sunday at the Government Administration Building at 8:00am,” he said.
