PHILIPSBURG–K1 DIRECT, K1 Britannia Foundation’s Disaster Relief and Crisis Team, is in the process of a deploying a team of trained volunteer members to assist with relief and aid in the Bahamas.

Disaster relief efforts have commenced due to the devastation caused by Hurricane Dorian, and K1 DIRECT will be on the ground to provide aid to the Bahamian community. K1 DIRECT has been training in various fields of disaster management to assist the disaster relief structure of St. Maarten and other islands through shelter management, first response, and distribution management, the team said on Friday.

K1 DIRECT is a team of trained volunteers in which different members are certified as Emergency Medical Responders and trained in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), automated external defibrillator (AED) use, first-aid, psychosocial support, and end-to-end supply chain management.

K1 DIRECT members work across the fields of medical response, humanitarian relief, data collection, and others, according to a press release.

The team will be going to the Bahamas to provide the service of their expertise and will be on the ground to collaborate with other organisations and initiatives, and fill in where most needed, K1 DIRECT said, adding that it is currently not taking relief supplies due to the logistical issue of transporting goods at this moment.

However, K1 DIRECT said members have received all the necessary personal supplies to ensure the team can be mobilised.

K1 DIRECT urges persons who want to assist to either make a monetary donation on the foundation’s website or get in contact with the team, as “help is needed in other forms as well.”

K1 DIRECT is also inviting the community of St. Maarten to support the team by purchasing raffle tickets. The funds generated through the raffle will go to the disaster operational budget, which will be used to cover operational cost, including fuel, emergency medical expenses, materials, and transportation.

For more information, or to donate, persons are asked to call tel. 1-721-553-4727/1-721-553-8186/1-721-543-3332 or to send an e-mail to
