King Fish reels in fifth calypso crown

CARNIVAL VILLAGE–Fish the Mega Boss came out on top as the 2017 Calypso King at this year’s NAGICO Calypso Finals hosted by Raw Promotions in Carnival Village that ended early Friday morning.

Ricky Da Phox was named first runner-up and Young Carlix the Protégé second runner-up.

The show was well attended and singers performed in two rounds. Last year’s Calypso Queen Shakiya fell short of retaining her title and came out in fourth place.

What is calypso without some bacchanal? Crowd favourite Young Carlix the Protégé was cheered on from the first round to the second and disappointed fans were shocked when Master of Ceremonies Fernando Clark announced that he had placed third.

Fish the Mega Boss continued his legacy by winning his fifth crown and said after the show,”Feels great to be the winner, especially that certain people who have no idea of what the art form is about are complaining after the show. You win, you lose in a competition. No one gets promised a win. Some people feel the title is reserved for them, but tonight there could be only one winner.”
