PHILIPSBURG–State Secretary for Home Affairs and Kingdom Relations Raymond Knops will visit St. Maarten on Thursday, February 8, and Friday, February 9, to discuss the 550 million-euro recovery fund allocated for St. Maarten.
During the first part of his visit, Knops will meet with St. Maarten officials to discuss matters regarding the next steps involving the recovery fund. He will use the remainder of his time to visit the various early recovery projects that have been initiated with the seven million euros which was made available by the Netherlands in December. The seven million euros is to finance short-term projects via local and international organisations.
In total six organisations received funds to execute a variety of projects. The focus of the approved projects is to meet people’s basic needs and support vulnerable groups in society.
Some projects include the reconstruction of housing for elderly, catering daily meals for school children and providing low-interest loans to small business entrepreneurs.
Knops and his delegation aim to visit all organisations to get a first-hand look at “the positive impact” of the projects in St. Maarten.
