‘Kuchi’ to stand trial in ‘Mars’ investigation in the Netherlands | THE DAILY HERALD

PHILIPSBURG–Main suspect in the Mars investigation Kathron “Kucki” Fortune (41), who is accused of killing two men in a Simpson Bay Resort hotel room on December 5, 2016, will heave to stand trial in the Netherlands on Friday, March 1, the Court of First Instance decided during a pro-forma hearing at the Courthouse in St. Maarten on Wednesday.

Fortune is currently detained in the penitentiary in Vught, the Netherlands. A Judge from St. Maarten, Fortune’s lawyer Sjamira Roseburg and possibly also a Prosecutor will be travelling to the Netherlands to attend the hearing. The public and the media in St. Maarten will be able to follow the proceedings at the Courthouse here via video-conferencing.

Fortune’s co-defendants T.J.F. (29) and K.K.K.S. (33) are held in preliminary detention in Pointe Blanche prison. Their cases will be heard at the Courthouse in Philipsburg May 15-16, 2019.

During a preliminary hearing on November 7, 2018, Fortune claimed that his brother T.J.F. and his former girlfriend and mother of his child K.K.K.S. had nothing to do with the death of the two victims, Luis David Sarante Diaz and Erwin “Eggy” Rosario Contreras.

Based on Fortune’s statement and because their clients have been held in detention since December 2016, the lawyers for K.K.K.S. and T.J.F. filed requests to suspend or lift their clients’ pre-trial detentions, but these requests, which the Prosecutor’s Office opposed, were refused by the Court.
